First theatre role at Bursa state theatre in Molière‘s "Bürger als Edelmann" at the age of 12.
1965 – 1967 Berlin, learning German at Goethe-Institute and work in different jobs.
1967 – 1979 drama school in Istanbul. First professional roles in Turkey: character of Charlotte Corday in Peter Weiss‘ "Marat-Sade", then Mrs. Begbick in "Mann ist Mann" by Bert Brecht.
1976 Volksbühne East Berlin. Assistance to Benno Besson, Brecht’s student and director, and to Matthias Langhoff.
1978 – 1979 Paris and Avignon, work together with Benno Besson on "Kaukasischer Kreidekreis" by Bert Brecht.
Doctoral candidate at the University of Paris, Vincennes.
1979 – 1994 engagement at the theatre in Bochum, Director: Claus Peymann. First play by Sevgi Özdamar "Karagöz in Alemania", published by Verlag der Autoren, Frankfurt, performed at Frankfurter Schauspielhaus 1986, directed by herself.

The Courtyard in the Mirror
"I thought she had died. I was standing in the kitchen with my back against theradiator, waiting for the sad light in her room, in the house across the way, where she lived, to go on in the large mirror that was attached to the wall over my kitchen table. For years her light from the house on the other side of the courtyard had been my setting sun. Whenever I saw her lighted window in the kitchen mirror, and only then, I turned on the light in my apartment. Now I was standing in the dark and had a cookie in my hand, but wasn’t eating it. I was afraid I would make too much noise. If she had died ..."

On the Train
"How long the train had already been standing in the landscape, I didn’t know. There wasn't anyone I could ask either, no one besides me was standing in the poorly lit aisle on the train at this hour. Everyone was asleep.
The train was very old. The tracks on which it had been traveling from the Turkish border town of Edirne were also very old. Since yesterday the train had been hobbling along over tired tracks through Turkey, Bulgaria, and Serbia. But if you really listened to the tracks, you could tell how the old tracks were working hard to bring people from Turkey to their places of immigration in Europe."

Kendi Kendinin Terzisi Bir Kambur, Ece Ayhan’ın beyin ameliyatı için 1974’te gittiği Zürih’te Sevgi Özdamar’a eşlik ederken tuttuğu hastane günlüğünü ve Ece Ayhan’ın Sevgi Özdamar’a gönderdiği mektupları içeriyor. ‘Emine’ Sevgi Özdamar’ın Türkçeye ilk kez çevrilen kitabı Annedili, insanın evinden, dilinden uzak olması, evin kelimeleriyle evi hatırlama çabası, eve doğru bakmak üzerine birbirine değen dört hikâyeden oluşuyor.
